Brother, TPAB is going to blow your mind. To me, it’s a desert album 5. I love his whole catalogue, and GKMC is one of the best albums ever recorded, but TPAB lives on a different planet, and it’s going to change the way you think about music. As a musician, it was the first one to entice me, and the musicianship is out of our atmosphere, but his lyricism is even better, and his storytelling gets even deeper. You’re gonna love it. You can’t go wrong with him, but that’s like a very real pinnacle in music, and that’s undeniable. I dig your stuff, much love ✌️
@@Proppedupbybooksyou’re right because Macklemore won that Grammy right after Dot had just stolen the show from Imagine Dragons when he performed that mashup of gkmc and Radioactive with them that night.
He got fired because he staged a robbery the third Saturday he clocked in. He acted like he got robbed but it was really his friends. He was going for the miniature come up.
YES! He’s talked about how much he used to make up tall tales in his freestyles when he was younger, and was absolutely and unapologetically influenced by Wayne.
Sherane- intro to GKMC first time he takes the van out. BDKMV- forward flash to him writing the album reflecting on him then and him now being introduced to fame Backseat Freestyle- back to the story , kendrick and his homies rapping to instrumentals while driving around compton. TAOPP- Story, him and his homies planning/executing a home invasion. Money Trees- inside kdots mind, his coping mechanism for committing home invasions (end skit is about kdots homies dropping him off so he can meet with a girl) Poetic Justice- sex scene (could just be in kdots head because it ends with him being setup and back to the beginning of the film) Good Kid- his pov of a kid trying to live in compton, a geminis perspective of how he can crash out at any moment but chooses not to MAAD City- him crashing out, other side of the gemini (a birthing theme throughout his career) Swimming Pools- main character is drinking to cope with the murder he committed, also a song that speaks on how alcohol abuse is passed down through generations (end skit is back to the story, hanging with his friends until one gets killed by rivals) Sing about me- (self explanatory song/ of of the greatest hip hop songs of all time) ends with him and his homies being saved. Real- ending of the film, basically a summary of the album.
I always thought m.A.A.d city was him tweaking out from the blunt and other anxieties and fears in the back of the car after being rescued by his homies…as well with good kid being him stressing and thinking about his life as he was held captive in Sherane’s house by the 2 men (the ppl who were waiting at Sherane’s house)…yea but Swimming Pools is 100% about Kendrick’s homies trying to help him calm down by peer pressuring him into drinking (at a club maybe?) not necessarily about a possible murder that he maybe did before this point…and the end skit is his homies seeing the 2 men who held Kendrick captive and sh**ting them, resulting in the d**th of Dave (one of the homies brothers) Real being about many things but mostly about how he’s finally living a REAL life (kinda) and learning to love himself (kinda) which directly transitions into Wesley’s Theory and the rest of TPaB, skipping over Compton since it’s not really canon…also the songs don’t always directly convey what’s happening in the story at that moment but yea idk 🤷♂️
I swear listening to Kendricks albums in sequence and realizing the genius and the beauty of the art with each of his albums it truly brings tears to my eyes its just fucking beautiful and so powerful and impactful
Noooo! Zero! I need you to go back and listen to “money trees” again. Bro the money trees are the rich houses, he’s rapping about hitting licks in the rich neighborhood. Which is why it plays after he was doing that home invasion. That song is DEEP. I don’t think you gave it the Justice it deserves.💯. But I still love this reaction
@@cheeto3688 if that’s how you interpret it that’s fine. But he’s talking about people that come from silver spoons, and home invasion was persuasive, from 9-5 I know it’s vacant… to me sounds like he’s breaking in rich homes when the people are at work. He starts off the song saying hit the house lick, tell me are you with it. Then while free styling in his car he sees someone rich, hence him saying, “then freeze that verse when we see dollar signs” , “you looking like an easy come up ya b****” money trees are the rich homes that hide you from shade, shade being thrown because of the money you have. Hence, “a dollar might just f your main chick, that’s just how I feel, a dollar might make that lame switch” etc. the money the rich people have can make all these things happen, while he’s been having to hustle all day through canals and alley ways 🤷🏾♂️ idk maybe I’m just hearing it different. Until Kendrick tells me differently that’s how I will interpret it. But to each his own. lol. I mean that with all due respect, because it’s not like I know for sure🤷🏾♂️
Kendrick said that he makes music for the homies who are locked up, who have nothing to do but contemplate the lyrics, on repeat. The rest of us have to make time to appreciate it. Happy that you’re making the time.
I'm only a few minutes into the video but it's already very impressive to me that you caught the exact story and feel of the first track on your first listen without the lyrics pulled up. You're very media literate, its quite admirable. Great reaction so far, I'm going straight to TPAB after this!
I love Backstreet Freestyle, precisely because it captures the 'dreams' of a 17 year old, or at least the dreams he'll freestyle to his homies. He captures the hubris and naivety of adolescence perfectly.
Please do To Pimp A Butterfly next, but I’d highly recommend using genius while doing it. He uses a lot of metaphors that can easily be mistaking and it will make a lot more sense for themes and story of the album. It’s a very complex piece of art. I’ve listened to it countless times and am still discovering things years later lol
I don’t want to ruin the album but a lot of reactions I’ve seen of TPAB don’t understand it, so they don’t really like it. But if you understand it, it’s incredible. A very quick recap without spoiling anything. The album follows Kendrick after the success of GKMC. He doesn’t know what to do with all of his fame and money. He eventually goes to Africa (Momma), where he discovers the roots of his culture and what real struggle is about. He comes back home to try and preach the message that gang banging and killing each other is a broken system. In the beginning of the album he uses woman for a few different metaphors that are hard to catch. He talks about a woman and how in love he is with “her”, but he’s really talking about money. The beginning of the album is about how the industry uses black artists for profit. He is the butterfly that the industry tries to pimp. It’s also a deeper meaning that he’s the reincarnation of Tupac. 2 Pimp A Buttery (2PAB), but 2 Pimp a Caterpillar (2PAC)…
The way I always interpreted the fading away portion of Sing About Me is that like a lot of people living in poverty, especially sex workers, her voice is fading away just as her life is fading away. People are being ground out and pushed down by the system that is slowly killing them. People in impoverished communities break their backs working and can't take care of their health the way wealthy people can. Sex workers will catch STD's that slowly kill them, just like poverty will slowly kill you. That's why it's not a sudden cut-off like the brother in verse 1 being shot; she's slowly dying over the course of seconds as her voice grows quieter, representing years of declining health and opportunities, the slow fade of life in the system.
Well done Bro... just listened to this album reaction on a road trip. It was perfectly done. Not too much pause, talking or anything. Wish you had done the other 6 tracks. I just went straight to listening them on Spotify. Power y'all!! 🫡❤️💯
1:10:31 it’s really 2 songs in one and it’s the climax of the story, the most impactful track on the album in my opinion. Dot has at least 1 song on each album that brings tears to my eyes and Sing About Me/Im Dyin of Thirst is the one!
This reaction was genuinely amazing, you picked up on almost everything about this album. I think TPAB is his best work but GKMC is my second favourite after GNX. Keep at this shit, AMAZING reaction, make sure your chair is more comfortable next time tho😂
Yes bob your head to backstreet freestyle. Its the absurdity of the parallel. Kendrick has a gift and it there is no end to the well. This is high buzz track. And its a freestyle. Don't think of hearing the word for what it is, its a metaphor. F1cking the world, is goin out, crushing it, and doing it your way. It doesn't have to be sexual. It can be, but the point is that its your decision to interpret.
At the end of the first song the guys approach Kendrick when he pulls up on Sherane. He brings that part of the story back up the end of Poetic Justice where they pull Kendrick out of the car and jump him leading to the next songs
@ what I’m saying is the language is very plain. He was acting like he didn’t understand what the words meant. I’m not talking about understanding the mindset of committing a robbery lol
I subscribed. I'm excited for you to react to TPAB; idk if there will be a more critically-acclaimed rap album in our lifetime or ever. I'm also excited for you to hear MM&tBS, which is my favorite Kendrick album. I'm white, so it's difficult for me to connect with the themes of racism and black generational trauma, even if I try my hardest to understand what he's talking about, but Mr. Morale is also about dealing with PTSD and mental illness, and that's a struggle I have as well. I think the wealth of perspective in art is essential, but moreso, the true value of art is recontextualising its message and applying it to one's own life, and I greatly value K Dot for giving me that. Thank you for taking the time to engage with challenging art. I have no problem listening through a 12-minute song, but that's because I've conditioned myself to do so by listening to lots of songs that are even longer than that; I can see how that sort of track length could be difficult for someone accustomed to 4-minute songs. I really appreciate your perspective on things, as it helped me to understand GKMC, which I admittedly had difficulty doing when listening to it myself.
Love that you noticed Dominoes, it’s an inside joke within the fandom 😂 ❤❤❤ also: -Sherane isn’t setting him up, it’s a Romeo and Juliet situation. She lives on a different block with a rival gang. -“m.A.A.d” city has multiple meanings, def more than the fans figured out. One for sure is that the two As are capitalized as a reference to AA (alcoholics anonymous) as substance abuse and especially alcoholism is a theme.
This is an audio movie. You can’t skip and you may have to listen twice to understand that he’s telling you about what happened that summer with Sherane to that day that he tried to pull up on her.
This is easily one of the best rap albums ever made, the story it tells and his pure talent in storytelling and rapping makes it up there with the best. The Art of Peer Pressure is my fave song on this album.
aaahhhh i get a new sense of joy these days knowing that theres people out there who havent heard his previous works and are now getting blessed. backseat freestyle had me in a choke hold back in hs
(16:20): Kendrick has an entire mixtape dedicated to Lil Wayne. He's always acknowledged that Wayne's a huge influence on him. There's a hilarious video of a drunk Kendrick shouting "NO" over and over while reciting Wayne's lyrics to a camera back in the day when Wayne was talking about retiring. (21:25): Kendrick has often said that duality is at the heart of his music -- that's why he frequently highlights his Gemini/Bipolar nature. Scru Face Jean refers to it as Kendrick's ability to mix "the righteous with the 'ratchet' ". (54:03): According to Kendrick interviews, he saw his first murder at the age of 5 when he was playing in front of his house. (1:26:24): This is Maya Angelou. Would really recommend reacting to Cartoons & Cereal. It was left off of GKMC and has an amazing fan-made video on RUclips. It's one of Kendrick's best songs.
Cartoons and Cereal used to scare me for some reason when I was younger😭😭 I always loved the song tho, but I never understood the lyrics and felt like the meaning was something sinister 🤦🏽♀️ good times lmaoo
Yeah it didn’t seem crazy long back in the day lol. But he’s not completely wrong. That song “Money Trees” in particular is probably a little longer than it needs to be. And I have been listening to that song in more recent years and felt like it was dragging a bit towards the end. I just attributed it to having heard it so many times though.
This album was so layered and nuisanced it really is a masterpiece! Also I think you might needa listen to Money Trees again because it wasn’t just long for the sake of being long . It seems surface leveled but the reason those lines were repeated were it was deep in meaning
Wayne was the first to cosign dot. He gave him his blessings and clearances to make his mixtape "C4" which is a mixtape of Kendrick using all the beats from "C3'(tha carter 3). So what did dot do? Rapped every verse in Wayne's style cadence delivery in an attempt to say i can do what you do better. Obviously in a competitive spirit. Pac Wayne Em and Kurupt are dots favorite rappers.
Funny thing about feeling like the songs are too long is that's a product of current hip hop and a new generation. Used to be short songs felt disappointing and you wished they rode out the beat just a little longer. Not meant as a diss but just a comment on reality in general, attention span and patience has been cut in half by quick gratification, TikTok and Shorts, and just growing up on the internet in general. At least that's how it feels sometimes.
@@beychellababycakes7831 If you'd want to cry again, I suggest listening to Tyler, the Creator and Frank Ocean. Absolutely phenomenal albums filled to the brim with emotions, stories and meaning.
Idk why the streaming service you’re using is saying that’s the deluxe, but it’s not. The original album ends with “Compton.” There’s a few different deluxe versions, but this one is definitely just the regular track list
In your Section .80 reaction, you asked why are we so in need of retaliation. That is addressed here. Now, you’re asking why do men think with the wrong head. That was addressed on Mr. Morale. Love to see it. ❤
38:06 Fan theory: Poetic Justice was entirely written by Kendrick, and the love interest is hip-hop, herself. Go back and listen to how differently the two of them interact with ”her”. It’s said that Kendrick made Drake diss and expose himself.
Yes, Kendrick Lamar's album Good Kid, M.A.A.D City won multiple awards, including Grammys for Best Rap Album and Best Rap Performance. The album was also nominated for several other awards, including Album of the Year and Best New Artist. Awards Best Rap Album: Won at the Grammys Best Rap Performance: Won at the Grammys for "Swimming Pools (Drank)" Best Rap Song: Won at the Grammys for "The Heart Part 5" Nominations Album of the Year, Best New Artist, Best Rap Song for "F***in' Problems, and Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for "Now Or Never. Other accomplishments Good Kid, M.A.A.D City was certified triple platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) It was named one of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time by Rolling Stone It was named the greatest concept album of all time by Rolling Stone It remained on the Billboard 200 for 12 consecutive years
The first song is about meeting Sherane. Bitch don’t kill my vibe is about Kendrick dreams to be rich but how Compton keeps holding him back. Backseat freestyle is a freestyle he did inside the white car he hopped later on at the art of peer pressure. The same song his friends forced him to break into a opps house. Poetic Justice and Money tress just highlights about what he talked about on bdkmv, but also mentioning how Sherane was a bad influence and he knew it but ignored the signals though. Good kid is about how dangerous and violent is Compton. Maad City is about the guys that jumped on him earlier, remember the questions “where you from ? Where your grandma stays ?” He just explains how he’s friends came to save him, but at the process they exchanged shots. And the shots ended up shooting Kendrick’s friend brother. Samidot, is long because it’s divided in two parts like Sing about me, is about how his friend reacted to his brother death, that he was planning to change and asking Kendrick to sing about them, about what they went through. Dying of thirst is a special sentence reflecting that they were thirst by the holy water (god or baptism). The song also shows how their friends were regretting theirs actions and they were tired of the lifestyle (how many sins ?), so they god was the way they could find freedom and redemption.
Make sure ya'll leave a LIKE and a comment, these album reactions take a lot of energy, but anything for ya'll 🖤. ENJOY THE VIDEO❗

This is an audio movie. You can’t skip and you may have to listen twice to understand that he’s telling you about what happened that summer with Sherane to that day that he tried to pull up on her.
14:15 ofc i gotta drop the "it also stands for 'my angry adolescence divided'" comment
This is easily one of the best rap albums ever made, the story it tells and his pure talent in storytelling and rapping makes it up there with the best. The Art of Peer Pressure is my fave song on this album.
absolutely love your kenny reactions!
& just your reaction style in general!!
finally 🔥🔥
Sorry for the wait 🤝
4 and 5 minute tracks are long now??? mannnnnn what happened to the game i love?
RIP THE THIRD RAP VERSE
Let’s GOOO🔥
😤😤
Angel Dust/PCP is not coke and weed but is used to lace blunts. It causes hallucinations
aaahhhh i get a new sense of joy these days knowing that theres people out there who havent heard his previous works and are now getting blessed. backseat freestyle had me in a choke hold back in hs
TPAB has to be next. It might be the greatest album of all time, any genre
Oh so we’re going to down the whole discography? I got on board for the battle rap content but I’m here for this
Facts !!
@@gee_ruizI was wondering why there wasn’t a GNX reaction but I get it now
(16:20): Kendrick has an entire mixtape dedicated to Lil Wayne.
Lol yea them long songs before the attention span plummeted after vine and althat social media shii , we’re victims including you buddy😂😂
The Lil Wayne comparison isn't far off Kendrick is a big Wayne fan there's videos of him paying homage and rapping Wayne songs
This album was so layered and nuisanced it really is a masterpiece! Also I think you might needa listen to Money Trees again because it wasn’t just long for the sake of being long . It seems surface leveled but the reason those lines were repeated were it was deep in meaning
I love how nuanced became nuisance 😂😅
You could've literally clicked the lyrics to help.
Thanks, I didn’t know that
Keep posting albums bro i swear you're gonna go far fr
Wayne was the first to cosign dot. He gave him his blessings and clearances to make his mixtape "C4" which is a mixtape of Kendrick using all the beats from "C3'(tha carter 3). So what did dot do? Rapped every verse in Wayne's style cadence delivery in an attempt to say i can do what you do better. Obviously in a competitive spirit. Pac Wayne Em and Kurupt are dots favorite rappers.
1 one the best albums ever
Kendrick albums are story telling that’s why people was lost when he drop GNX
Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers!!
Bro you look exactly like Karim Adeyemi hahaha, idk if anybody ever told you that, dope reaction
TPAB next bro!!! 👀 we need that ❤
1:10:20 probably one of the best rap song
for this album he was nominated for 7 grammies but didn't win any :(
1:09:54 this is one of the best songs in his entire catalog
I'd love to see the deluxe album tracks finished up. I think you'd like it!
He have 17 granny Grammy but none off this album
samidot is the greatest rap song of all time if we being fr
Only song in Hip Hop that’s ever brought me to tears.
@@beychellababycakes7831 If you'd want to cry again, I suggest listening to Tyler, the Creator and Frank Ocean. Absolutely phenomenal albums filled to the brim with emotions, stories and meaning.
indeed it is
This just straight glaze
If we don’t get the full deluxe it would suck ngl. Too many good songs on there
YERRRR
YERR.
Kendrick is the 🐐
Yo, it's awesome to see you getting into this album.
When thos dripped, we didn't know how good we had it. Theres so many classics here
Him being upset that one song is 12 min is just a sign of the times lol
I NEED THAT TPAB REACTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
16:24 check his “C4” mix tape lol bro loves Lil Wayne
1:02:59 😂😂😂 they decided to give it to Macelmore
Fr, genuinely embarrassing for something that can be considered one of the best albums of all time to be outdone by that.
Even Macklemore decided he didn't deserve that 🙏🏽😭
After the Kdot catalog, let's do Cole
Idk why the streaming service you’re using is saying that’s the deluxe, but it’s not. The original album ends with “Compton.” There’s a few different deluxe versions, but this one is definitely just the regular track list
apple music
In your Section .80 reaction, you asked why are we so in need of retaliation. That is addressed here.
Now, you’re asking why do men think with the wrong head. That was addressed on Mr. Morale.
Love to see it. ❤
Compton is the original outro
“Staged a robbery the 3rd Saturday I clocked in” that’s why he was fired from his job in maad city
38:06 Fan theory: Poetic Justice was entirely written by Kendrick, and the love interest is hip-hop, herself. Go back and listen to how differently the two of them interact with ”her”. It’s said that Kendrick made Drake diss and expose himself.
Angel Dust is PCP.

K.DOTS BEST ALBUM FR😤🔥
🔥
Angel Dust is PCP or “sherm”. People used to dip joints and blunts in it. Someone out there probably still does lol.
1:06:40 i just realized he cut out the v in dive on that last reverb
Good catch
